Šoštanj Thermal Power Plant

The Šoštanj Thermal Power Plant is a limited company, with Holding Slovenske elektrarne as the sole partner. The company is under the management of the Director.

The company's principal activity is generation of electricity and district heating energy.

With an installed power of 779 MW, the Šoštanj Thermal Power Plant generates, on average, one third of the energy in the country, and in periods of crisis, it can cover  more than one half of the national demand. The average annual electricity production ranges from 3,500 and 3,800 GWh. The average annual production of thermal energy used for district heating in the Šaleška dolina valley amounts to 400-450 GWh.

To achieve the above-mentioned annual production of electricity and thermal energy, the power plant uses between 3.5 and 4.2 million tonnes of coal and approximately 60 Sm3 of natural gas.

The results of operational readiness of our generators can be compared to the best European thermal power plants.
