The production figures for August and September are considerably lower than in the preceding months. The reason for this is the temporary shutdown of units 1-4 for the implementation of the reconditioning process. During this period, only unit 5 and the two gas turbines were in operation. We generated 404.4 GWh of electrical energy (of which 348.6 GWh was produced from Velenje lignite and 55.8 GWh from gas) for the electricity grid. We transmitted 23.5 GWh of thermal energy to Komunalno podjetje Velenje for the purpose of district heating. 363,969 t of Velenje lignite and 16.4 million Sm3 of natural gas were used in the production process.

At today’s 5th regular session, the Supervisory Board of Holding Slovenske elektrarne (HSE) considered the third version of the amended investment plan for the construction of Unit 6 at Termoelektrarna Šoštanj (TEŠ).

The last reconditioning of the 275 MW Unit 4, in operation since the end of 1972, was performed 4 years ago. The Unit is planned to operate until 2015 and remain on standby until 2016. Due to stricter environmental legislation, the operation of the Unit will most likely be prohibited after 2016.

From 1 August to 26 September this year, reconditioning will be performed on Units 3 and 4. Works on Unit 3 will include a minor reconditioning of vital devices and establishing a connection with the Unit 4 cooling system. The connection between the cooling systems of Units 3 and 4 was made necessary by the construction of Unit 6 – in order to create enough room for construction, the cooling towers of Units 1, 2 and 3 will have to be demolished in early 2010.

In the first half year, Termoelektrarna Šoštanj produced 2,145 GWh of electrical energy (on the generator), 1,886 GWh of which went into the electrical grid – 7.59% less than forecast in our business plan.

In order to keep the public informed of the arrangements for the construction of Unit 6, an open day was organised yesterday for the inhabitants of the Šoštanj municipality.

In 2008, Termoelektrarna Šoštanj fed 3,850 GWh of electrical energy into the grid, achieving the second highest production in the entire history of TEŠ. Production was higher only in 1983, when 4,077 GWh of electrical energy were generated. The business plan was exceeded by 1.53% or 58 GWh.
